Jacqui Smith MP visits ambassador Leanna on Tesco work scheme

Redditch MP, and former Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith today visited an innovative scheme run at Tesco in Redditch – which has given a young wheelchair-user her first taste of the world of work.

Midlands 21 year old Leanna Horne, who has cerebral palsy and currently studies Theatre and Performance at University, has just completed a two-week placement at Tesco – organised in conjunction with young people’s mobility charity Whizz-Kidz.

She says: “I really enjoyed working at Tesco. The placement has definitely given me more confidence and shows that using a wheelchair shouldn’t have to be an obstacle …

Whizz-Kidz teams with New Look to raise funds and awareness

Fashion retailer New Look has chosen Whizz-Kidz as a beneficiary charity of its recently launched charitable New Look Foundation.

The two year partnership will centre on staff and customer fundraising for the young people’s mobility charity, and will also involve awareness-raising initiatives. Whizz-Kidz’ young ambassadors will be working with New Look to support schemes on high street accessibility and inclusivity in fashion wear.
Whizz-Kidz supports the independence of young disabled people up to the age of 24 around the UK by providing mobility equipment such as powered wheelchairs, delivering skills-training and a work placement programme.
