Action to end the wheelchair postcode lottery

People throughout the country who need wheelchairs will be helped by large-scale pilot projects in the East of England and the South West, Care Services Minister Phil Hope announced on 19 March 2010.
The pilots will develop a consistent approach. Currently, local health trusts set their own criteria which means entitlement to wheelchair and seating equipment varies across the country.
A key part of the pilot will be setting standards for delivering timely services. Too often, people who need a new service following a life change have to wait too long. This can cut them off from society as well as exacerbating physical issues, resulting in a greater cost …

Exclusive: sneak preview of Whizz-Kidz new cinema advert

Here it is! Whizz-Kidz proudly presents our brand new cinema advert, showing in cinemas nationwide as of April 2nd 2010. Narrated by ‘Cold Feet’ actor James Nesbitt, it was produced pro bono by creative agency, The Red Brick Road.
The advert depicts young wheelchair users behaving mischievously and getting up to childhood pranks – freed up to do so by mobility equipment that “lets kids be kids”. All of the young people in the commercial are real disabled ambassadors of the charity.

Whizz-Kidz consult on accessibility in Exhibition Road project

Four Whizz-Kidz ambassadors – Fatima, Alec, Henrique and Arunima – star in a new short-film, produced by The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC), highlighting the challenges and dangers experienced by wheelchair users visiting London’s Exhibition Road.
The Council invited four Whizz-Kidz ambassadors to spend a day auditing and assessing the current design of Exhibition Road – home to institutions including the V&A, Science Museum and Natural History Museum. The film sees the young people, led by Arunima Misra, visiting the area before meeting with Councillors to contribute ideas on how its planned transformation ahead of the 2012 Olympics can best meet the needs of the many young disabled people who visit the …
