Help design the wheelchair of the future

The survey is  now closed (14 May 2010), but thanks to everyone for taking part! We hope to publish the results in the very near future.

Whizz-Kidz is working with the organisations Devices for Dignity and Frazer-Nash Consultancy to help design a wheelchair of the future. That’s why we are asking young wheelchair users, parents and carers, and professionals working with disabled children to give us their views about wheelchairs.

Introducing the new website

Whizz-Kidz has gone green – not literally, and certainly not with envy. As we turn 21 this year, we figured a change was as good as a rest, and we’ve updated our logo and website with a more contemporary feel. If Doctor Who can do it, why can’t we?

Our refreshed new colours and logo were created pro-bono for us by the Red Brick Road, who are also behind our celebrated new cinema advert.

Please take a look around the new website – it’s business as usual but you will also see some great new features and projects. We’re not quite finished, so you will start to see more exciting new developments …

Stranded Travis Perkins staff hold ash cloud charity sweepstake

Without a doubt, thousands of people are experiencing the misery of being stuck far from home by ash cloud flight restrictions, but some smart staff from builders’ merchants Travis Perkins have turned their nightmare journey into a charity money spinner!

Robin Proctor and his team – John Carter, Norman Bell and John Peachey – have been in stranded in Istanbul for four days, but decided to set up the “Volcanic Turkey Sweepstake” using Virgin Money Giving to raise money for Travis Perkins’ Group Supply Chain Charity of the year, Whizz Kidz.

Aimed at colleagues, the sweepstake offered a £100 prize to the person who donated via the page and made the most accurate guess as to how long the journey back …

Exclusive: it’s arrived! Whizz-Kidz new cinema advert hits the big screens

Here it is! Whizz-Kidz proudly presents our brand new cinema advert, showing in cinemas nationwide right now.

Have you seen it yet? It’s being shown before the hit film “How to Train Your Dragon”, and will also be trailed in front of the following movies:

from 7th May for two weeks – “Furry Vengeance”
from 28th May for two weeks – “The Tooth Fairy”

Narrated by ‘Cold Feet’ actor James Nesbitt, the advert was produced pro bono by creative agency, The Red Brick Road, and depicts young wheelchair users behaving mischievously and getting up to childhood pranks.

The idea is that mobility equipment that “lets kids be kids”. All of the young people in the commercial are real disabled ambassadors of the charity.

Phil Packer’s 26th mile for Whizz-Kidz in Marathon challenge

Iraq war veteran and prolific fundraiser Phil Packer, who suffered severe spinal cord injuries in 2008, will attempt to walk the London Marathon in 26 hours, supporting a different charity each mile. Youth mobility charity Whizz-Kidz is proud to claim the 26th – and final – mile of Phil’s marathon challenge.

Packer’s hand-picked charities, all of whom support young disabled people or disadvantaged young people, will provide a ‘support walker’ to represent them and help him along the way.

Representing Whizz-Kidz, who provide mobility equipment, skills training and work placements for disabled young people, is 24 year old Arunima Misra, a trainee lawyer and Whizz-Kidz ambassador. She said:
