Whizz-Kidz invites you to our first National Volunteer Conference

We would like to invite you all along to our very first National Volunteer Conference – whether you volunteer for us already, or want to come along and find out what volunteering for Whizz-Kidz is all about .  You’ll hear about upcoming campaigns and appeals, celebrate our successes, and meet people from across Whizz-Kidz, including other volunteers and young Ambassadors.

Location: Westminster City School, London

Date: Saturday, 19th June, 2010
Time: 9.30am – 4.00pm

To register, please fill in a National Volunteer Conference Registration Form and post or email it back to us. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, as well as help with travel expenses.

Whizz-Kidz nominated for national award

We are proud to announce Whizz-Kidz has been nominated for an excellence award in the disability category of The Charity Awards 2010.

The star-studded awards ceremony in London on 10 June is hosted by comedienne Jo Brand, and attended by celebrities including Greta Scacchi, Lynda Bellingham, Jon Snow and Peter Bowles. It is sponsored by the Charities Aid Foundation, The Leadership Trust and The Times, is the most high-profile event in the charity calendar.

Writing in Society Guardian on Wednesday 26 May, Martin Brookes argues that charities need to prove their impact is sustainable and “scalable”; in other words, can charities’ local projects be repeated on a national scale and make a measurable impact?

Mark a marathon challenge with unique hand-bound “Whizz-Kidz” Haruki Murakami novel

Step into the shoes of the new Home Secretary…

Theresa May MP, the new Conservative Home Secretary – and Equalities Minister – generously donated two pairs of her shoes to Whizz-Kidz’ Heels for Wheels fundraiser with Mecca Bingo.

They are available to the highest bidder. All monies will go to Whizz-Kidz.

Whizz-Kidz marks another huge London Marathon success

On the morning of Sunday 25 April, London’s streets felt the pounding of 36,000 runners – around 600 of whom were fundraising for Whizz-Kidz – during the annual London Marathon.

The Whizz-Kidz team including Minnie Mouse, a duck, Fred Flintstone, Willy Wonka, Gonzo, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and women in tutus was once again sponsored by Santander.

Runners came from all over the world including Australia, America, Africa and all over Europe in order to join the Whizz-Kidz team. They made it over in spite of problems with travel owing to the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud. One amazing runner, Kate, completed the marathon having flown in from …
