Whizz-Kid helps launch world’s first water-and-solar powered wheelchair lift at the London Festival of Architecture

Karl Woods, a 19 year old wheelchair user from Bermondsey and ambassador for the youth mobility charity Whizz-Kidz, helped unveil the very first water-and-solar powered accessible lift – set atop the historic Duke of York steps in London – this month.

The lift, created by Matthew Lloyd Architects, has been designed to raise public awareness around access and sustainability – firmly placing the key issues of inclusive design and equal access under the spotlight.

After Karl descended the steps using the lift, he said:

Whizz-Kidz’ day out at Wembley

On Wednesday 26 May the National Association of Disabled Supporters (NADS) held their Annual General Meeting at Wembley Stadium. NADS invited Whizz-Kidz and two other charities to come along and talk about the work we do with young disabled people.

Three of our young ambassadors joined us to explain all about the charity; they were Karl Woods – Millwall supporter, George Conway – Middlesbrough supporter, and Luke Stewart – Everton Supporter. Karl, George and Luke were interviewed by school children from Wolverhampton who are producing a report on accessibility to sporting venues for disabled people.
