Whizz-Kidz hits Glasgow’s streets and media – in Whizz Wheel Challenge Day

The Kidz Board, with volunteers from Whizz-Kidz’s corporate partner Molson Coors Scotland, took to the public transport of Glasgow last week – for a fun-packed challenge looking at the city’s accessibility ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

The ‘Whizz Wheel Challenge’ saw the 12 youngsters navigate around the city’s landmarks completing tasks; ending with a game of Boccia with BBC sports presenter Chick Young in Glasgow’s iconic Hampden Park.

Whizz-Kidz up for prestigious National Lottery Award

We’re excited to tell you that Kidz Unlimited has been successfully voted through to the live BBC final in the prestigious National Lottery Awards 2012 in December.

We are one of three finalists in the Best Charity Project category.

This is a fantastic result for Whizz-Kidz, and we thank each of you – your friends and families – for voting to ensure we got through to the final three.

Whizz-Kidz Proud to Launch COTY Partnership with BlackRock UK

Whizz-Kidz is proud to have been chosen as international asset management firm BlackRockUK’s charity of the year, from September 2012 – September 2013.

The partnership kicked off in the Edinburgh office on 31 August with a dress down day and raffle, and on Monday 3 September Whizz-Kidz Ambassadors George, Nathan, Robyn and Karl travelled to BlackRock London HQ to host games, raffles, and talk to staff about the difference Whizz-Kidz makes.

The Kidz first challenged staff to guess the costs of their wheelchairs, while they showed them off, whizzed around, and explained the different functions. Hundreds of BlackRock staff donated as they entered the competition, whilst they learned about the many different types of equipment Whizz-Kidz provides and the levels of independence …

Ambassador Clubs get OFSTED seal of approval

OFSTED have described the outcomes for Ambassadors as “outstanding” in a report of Whizz-Kidz Ambassador Clubs after inspectors visited the Hull, Hartlepool and Newcastle clubs.

Their report is part of a UK-wide survey highlighting best practise in youth work opportunities for young disabled people. It commented on the enthusiasm and energy of those who take part in the clubs as they acquire vital skills and interests and agreed that the clubs encourage, support and stretch Ambassadors, while understanding and meeting their needs.

OFSTED’s report also praised the clubs for involving their members in local, regional and national decision-making through campaigns, which they agree increases confidence and broadens …

Christmas comes early for Whizz-Kidz with ITV Text Santa partnership

Whizz-Kidz received an early Christmas present today when ITV announced that it’s been chosen to benefit from the Text Santa appeal in December. The national charity, which transforms disabled children and young people’s lives by providing the right mobility equipment, skills training, and opportunities to meet and have fun, will be one of six charities to feature in a live entertainment show on Friday 21 December.
