Following the recent announcements from London Marathon, we wanted to update you and ensure the continuation of support to our fantastic team. If you haven’t already read the update, please find it here

The 40th London Marathon will go ahead in a new way that has never been seen before. Unfortunately this does mean the mass participation London Marathon that we know and love, will no longer take place on 4th October, with all runners who held a place in that event (or had deferred to the 2021 event) being eligible to join a new ‘Virtual London Marathon race for our times’ on the 4th October 2020. This event offers the chance to take part in The 40th Race by running the famous 26.2 mile marathon distance from home or anywhere in the world on a course of your choice, with all finishers receiving the coveted London Marathon finishers T-shirt and medal. We look forward to being in touch with more information about this new virtual event in the near future.

The Elite race will still take place on 4th October 2020, and will be held in St James’ Park, with no spectators allowed. There will be BBC coverage for both this and the virtual event, with the core aim being to raise vital funds for charity in what is anticipated will become the World’s biggest mass participation event.

The 2021 London Marathon will move from its usual April date to Sunday 3 October 2021, to give the best chance for the mass participation race to return. All Whizz-Kidz runners who sign up for the virtual race will still be eligible to take part in the mass participation race in 2021, as well as the opportunity to defer to either 2022, or 2023. We will share more information about this, as well as the process you need to undertake to express your preferences, as soon as it becomes available.

We would like to thank you for your continued patience, there are many moving parts to this new plan and we will be answering all of your questions in due course. We greatly appreciate the wonderful comments that you have been sharing with the team and we look forward to getting our plans on track to support Team Whizz-Kidz, with both this exciting new virtual opportunity, as well as your participation in a future mass event and help you get to your London Marathon finish line goal!

Please continue to keep in touch with your questions by emailing us at events@whizz-kidz.org.uk and we will be in touch with you shortly.

Best wishes
