The young Trustees of disabled children and young people’s charity Whizz-Kidz celebrated Disability Access Day 2017 by campaigning for support in Birmingham.

Members of the Whizz-Kidz Kidz Board, who represent disabled young people across the UK, visited Birmingham’s iconic Bullring to hand out flyers and tell the public about Get On Board – Whizz-Kidz’s ongoing campaign for better access to public transport.

The Kidz Board is part of the charity’s extensive range of services and initiatives designed to help disabled young people grow in confidence and realise their true potential. The Board provides an opportunity for its members to shape Whizz-Kidz policy, and campaign on issues that are important to them, and push for local change to improve the lives of disabled young people across the UK.

As with all of Whizz-Kidz’s services, the event was made possible by generous support from players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. Whizz-Kidz has been supported by lottery players since 2013 and, to date, they have generously awarded nearly a million pounds to support the charity’s work.

George Fielding is Chair of the Whizz-Kidz Kidz Board. He said:

“We’ve marked Disability Access Day this year by handing out flyers and speaking to the good people of Birmingham about our Get On Board transport campaign. Public transport is a lifeline to so many disabled people, so it’s incredibly important that it is accessible to all.

“The Kidz Board plays a massively important role in Whizz-Kidz, and we’re so grateful to the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, whose generosity makes what we do possible.”

Jo Rhodes-Jiao is Head of Volunteering and Leadership at Whizz-Kidz. She said:

“Our Kidz Board provides young people with a fantastic opportunity to develop leadership skills and take an active role in the governance of Whizz-Kidz, so it’s brilliant that they’ve marked Disability Access Day by actively campaigning in Birmingham.

“We’re really grateful to the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery for their support in helping Whizz-Kidz to deliver all our services, and hope they’ll continue to support our work for years to come! Thank you!”
