In response to the publication of the Universal Personalised Care: Implementing the Personalised Care Model guidance, Ruth Owen OBE, Chief Executive of Whizz-Kidz, said
“Whizz-Kidz has long been a supporter of Personal Wheelchair Budgets as they not only offer disabled people more choice and control but also improve their access to mobility equipment that fully meets their needs.
“It is therefore extremely encouraging to see Personal Wheelchair Budgets feature in NHS England’s vision and model for personalised care: Universal Personalised Care: Implementing the Personalised Care Model.
“Through our partnership with the NHS in Tower Hamlets, Whizz-Kidz is already successfully delivering personal wheelchair budgets to help disabled people get the wheelchair they need, when they need it. That is why we welcome the NHS’s commitment to replace the wheelchair voucher scheme with personal wheelchair budgets. This will hopefully encourage CCGs to deliver wheelchair services that are not only more effective and efficient, but that also offer a more holistic approach to the needs of disabled children and young people.”
