Whizz-Kidz is delighted to announce that Kidz Board Member for Wales and long-standing Ambassador, Ayesha Khan, has won a Wales Volunteer of the Year Award in recognition of her amazing support of our work.
Ayesha was presented the award by BBC news journalist Sian Lloyd at an event held at Cardiff Castle on Friday 10th June.
On her nomination, Ayesha said:
‘I would like to thank Whizz-Kidz for nominating me. Without them, I wouldn't be where I am today. They have supported me right from when I first started to now, and I feel humbled being a part of an organisation which has such a friendly bunch of staff.’
Ayesha’s activities for Whizz-Kidz are broad and far-reaching. From fundraising to running clubs, and from mentoring to providing training for young wheelchair users, Aysha’s tireless commitment to enhancing the lives of young disabled people is second to none.
Jo Rhodes-Jiao, Volunteer and Leadership Manager at Whizz-Kidz, said of Ayesha:
‘Ayesha is an inspiration to the staff, young people and other volunteers. She is always the first to volunteer and always so passionate about the volunteering she does. The organisation is so lucky to have a volunteer like Ayesha and what she contributes to the organisation is so valuable.’
Ayesha has been a fantastic fundraiser for Whizz-Kidz, and puts her love of sport to good use. To date, she’s raised more than £1,600 through activities including participating in the Cardiff Half Marathon.
Ruth Owen, Chief Executive at Whizz-Kidz, said:
“We’re so proud of Ayesha, and we’re thrilled that her inspirational commitment to volunteering has been recognised with this much-deserved award.
“As a volunteer – and a fundraiser – Ayesha is not only a fantastic role model for her peers, she also embodies all of Whizz-Kidz values. We’re delighted for her!”
