Our vision

Our vision is to ensure that every child with a mobility impairment in the UK is given the opportunity to fulfil their potential and lead an ordinary, active childhood. And we won’t stop until we’ve achieved it.

What makes us different?

There are a lot of charities asking for your support, but there are things about Whizz-Kidz that make us different. We’re upbeat and dynamic in our approach; we’re inclusive; what we do is liberating, and our goals are achievable.

Our strategy 2008-2009

Our strategy is focused on increasing our impact on more young lives. We are determined to diversify our income to ensure continued growth and development for the longer term.

We are looking to develop our service so that we can offer more sustained support for a young person through their childhood ‘life journey’. In the future our integrated service package will fully incorporate mobility equipment, wheelchair training, advice and advocacy and life skills for young people.  With new resources for example, we aim to offer our wheelchair training to every child who receives equipment from us.

We stepped up our influencing activities in 2006 and will continue this to ensure child mobility is high on the Government’s agenda. The up and coming Comprehensive Spending Review and the HM Treasury’s Young People’s Review identifies disabled children and mobility equipment as high priorities. These two initiatives present a unique window of opportunity to improve wheelchair services for children. Our goal is to make sure young wheelchair users and their families benefit.

We are currently exploring how best we can work with the statutory services and have recently launched a pilot initiative, which will implement a new model of service delivery in partnership with Tower Hamlets NHS Primary Care Trust. This pilot will deliver an integrated service which will meet the individual needs of local children, through pooled budgets, joint assessments and shared expertise.
