Eloise ran for #TeamWhizzKidz in 2015 and has joined our team again for 2016. Here, she explains why she chose to run for us.
When I ran the Virgin London Marathon 2015, I was proud to be wearing a bright green Whizz-Kidz vest. I had been in the crowds the year before, and the support was so positive, encouraging and downright loud that I knew it would be a brilliant charity to run for - when you're watching the race you can't miss the Whizz-Kidz team!
Having lost my Dad in 2011, who was dedicated to working in a school for disabled children, the cause is extremely close to my heart. I am supporting something that he believed in and raising money to help children live more independent lives - another reason I’m incredibly proud.
Whizz-Kidz hosts training days for their London Marathon runners, and meeting young people there that have benefited from the charity made all the long, hard miles totally worth it. In fact, I didn’t actually anticipate the fantastic level of support you receive as part of team Whizz-Kidz; not only training days but an expert coach on hand 24/7 for advice, and even a drinks reception just to say thank you. I felt part of a truly amazing team.
With pub quizzes, various clothes and bake sales, plus the generosity of family and friends, I surpassed my target fundraising amount of £1,600. I felt incredibly nervous about race day, but running for such a wonderful charity gave me a great feeling of accomplishment and purpose, and I would encourage anyone to do the same!
Best of all, I knew that Whizz-Kidz and my Dad were with me for every step of those 26.2 miles.
