Have wheelchair services for disabled children and young people in Wales improved in the past 12 months?
Contact a Family Wales has issued a survey to find out parents views on any improvements to wheelchair services for disabled children and young people in Wales. To give your views complete the survey here
The National Assembly for Wales’s Health and Social Care Committee has agreed to undertake a one-day inquiry on wheelchair services in Wales taking place on the 8th March 2012.
The purpose of this one-day inquiry is to consider the extent to which the recommendations made by the previous Committee’s Report on Wheelchair Services in Wales (published May 2010) have been implemented.

Whizz-Kidz celebrates young disabled role models, in star-studded awards ceremony at the House of Commons

Whizz-Kidz, the UK charity that supports young disabled people with mobility equipment, life skills and campaigning and leadership tools, held its first national recognition event – at a House of Commons ceremony on Wednesday 8 February 2012.
The Kidz Unlimited ‘Celebrating Achievement’ Awards celebrated the skills, talent and achievements of the charity’s Ambassadors and volunteers around the UK, and the important part the Ambassador Network plays in influencing change on a regional and national level in order to improve the lives of young disabled people. David Gray auctions four tickets for Las Vegas show for Whizz-Kidz

Singer songwriter David Gray, best-known for his massive hit album, White Ladder (featuring anthem ‘Babylon’), has donated four concert tickets to his performance at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas on Friday, February 24 to Whizz-Kidz. The tickets are now up for auction on eBay and include a special opportunity to meet David after his performance!
All money raised will be donated to the Whizz-Kidz, changing disabled children’s lives by providing them with vital mobility equipment, skills training, fun clubs and work placements. As our recent Kidz Unlimited Awards showed, we ensure disabled children and young people lead fun, active childhoods, and that every one fulfills their potential.

Ministry of Justice raise £2,400 during Christmas Charity Appeal

A huge thank you to the Ministry of Justice, which chose to support Whizz-Kidz for their annual Charity Appeal last month.
A total of £2,400 was raised in December.
Andrew Howell, Whizz-Kidz acting Director of Fundraising, has said: “We are extremely grateful for the MoJ’s contribution. The money will directly enable these children to experience a happier, more independent 2012 – and to take part in family life as they grow.”

Newport Dragons flyhalf backs Whizz-Kidz in Wales drive

Newport Dragons flyhalf, Jason Tovey, helped launch a Whizz-Kidz in Wales fundraising drive on Tuesday 24 January, at Rodney Parade.
Assisting him in the launch was 15-year-old Whizz-Kidz Ambassador, Ayesha Khan – a pupil at nearby Lliswerry High School. Ayesha has spina bifida and lat month received a new wheelchair from Whizz-Kidz.
Jason said:
“As a professional rugby player I spend every day training to keep at the top of my game. Never having a problem with getting around, it’s easy to take your mobility for granted, but meeting Ayesha and seeing how life-changing having the right wheelchair can be, is astonishing.”
With Jason Tovey’s help, Whizz-Kidz aims to raise £50,000 in Wales in 2012. All …
