Advice and information

Whizz-Kidz provides information and advice to families with disabled children and young people. The majority of the families we support often find it difficult to get information about what their child is entitled to or where they can get the right equipment or training. We also look to incorporate individual children’s cases into our campaigning work so that we can lobbying more effectively.

Information

We are focused on providing mobility information, and by working in partnership with the Contact a Family helpline in 2007 we are now able to provide a more comprehensive information service which includes advice and information on where to get help with benefits, short breaks, respite care etc.

If you have an enquiry, please take a look at our frequently asked questions to see if we have the answer there. If not, please email us or telephone our Advice and Information Coordinator on 0845 052 1231 (Local rate call).

Advice

Whizz-Kidz provides independent advice to families who are looking for our support or simply looking for guidance on how to go about approaching your local NHS wheelchair service or where to start when purchasing a wheelchair privately. Again, finding the right information can be a minefield so we are more than happy to point families in the right direction. (Not sure we are ready for this but we will be).

Advocacy

Getting the right equipment for your child can be a very frustrating time and particularly if your local wheelchair service is unable to meet your child’s individual needs.

Whizz-Kidz actively campaigns to raise awareness and influence government to improve services for disabled children and young people.

We campaign on particular mobility related issues and build individual case studies into our work to illustrate the problems families face. When we see an opportunity to highlight or campaign around a common problem we utilise our resources so that our efforts can benefit the maximum number of families in the most effective way.

If you’re having problems accessing the right mobility equipment from your local wheelchair services and would be happy for us to incorporate your child’s case into our campaigning work, please email us
