London pilot partnership

Tower Hamlets, London – a new partnership initiative

Whizz-Kidz is working in partnership with Tower Hamlets NHS Primary Care Trust (PCT) to enhance wheelchair service delivery for disabled children and young people in the borough and London wide.

Ed Balls with RobynThis three-year pilot initiative, launched in March 2007, is a unique partnership between the statutory services and the voluntary sector and quite different to our two existing mobility centres. It’s different because we are working with the PCT and together our goal is to enhance wheelchair provision by delivering joint assessments, sharing expertise and pooling our resources to meet the individual needs of disabled children and young people.

The pilot is an opportunity to enhance the wheelchair services that are already available, and to increase access to mobility equipment that is not readily available. Families of disabled children who live in Tower Hamlets will be referred to the wheelchair service or to Whizz-Kidz by their GP or therapist in the usual way.

The service is also open to families of disabled children from other London boroughs. Whizz-Kidz will contact the families' own PCT to see if there is an opportunity to joint fund the mobility equipment.

If you live in Tower Hamlets or any other London borough, please contact us on 020 8233 8302 or email us

The pilot initiative is funded thanks to Lydian Asset Management.

My Hippo Powered chair enables me to get myself to school, have days out, and I can now see over fences and through windows! I can also recline the chair when I need a rest!
