Getting mobility equipment – first steps
Your first port of call should always be your local NHS wheelchair service. You should talk to your local occupational therapist or physiotherapist and/or your child’s doctor as they will have a good idea of how best to approach your local wheelchair service in light of what your child needs.
If you have applied to your local NHS wheelchair service for equipment and cannot get funding then Whizz-Kidz may be able to help you.
If you are a parent of a disabled child (or a therapist or personal assistant) you need to consider the following before applying:
- Is your child aged under 18? (we need to receive your application before their 18th birthday)
- Does your child have a permanent condition that affects their mobility?
- Have you have approached your local NHS wheelchair service and the mobility equipment your child needs is not available?
