National schools consultation

This September, the Kidz Board are launching a consultation of disabled children across England by targeting over 20,000 state-run primary, secondary and special educational needs schools.

The consultation takes the form of a confidential questionnaire, and aims to take a national picture of modern school life – both inside the classroom and out – for disabled pupils and students.

If you are a young disabled person, aged 8 to 19, and attend any school or college in England, you can take part in the survey by clicking on this link.

Parents or carers of young disabled people who may need assistance to fill out the survey should of course support them to do so.

To download a pdf version of the survey to fill in and send back via post, click on this link.

The deadline to take part is the Friday 9th April 2010.

The far-reaching survey was conceived and created by the Kidz Board themselves, all aged between 13 and 19 – who are actively involved in raising awareness of the charity and advising on key issues.

It has the backing of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DSCF) – and is being sent out in Children’s Secretary Ed Balls MPs’ regular email to schools on Tuesday 29 September 2009.

If you are a teacher, you can find lesson plan ideas and Guidance Notes by clicking here (open as PDF), and parents may find these useful too.

We hope to receive raw results in late November, presenting the findings to the DCSF on December 10.

We aim to formally publish the consultation findings publicly early in 2010. Thank you for getting involved - this is a really important project for us to and will support making education for young disabled people enjoyable, challenging and fun.
