Whizz-Kidz introduced the ‘Man in a Van’ (mobile clinics) initiative in autumn 2012, thanks to funding from the Department of Health.
Our Man in a Van mobile clinics are driven by Whizz-Kidz Mobility Specialists who have the expert knowledge and experience to make final adjustments to the chair (e.g. seat height, speed, alterations to the cushion and seating) on the day of handover. Each vehicle is fully equipped with a range of engineering tools and assessment stock (including manual and powered paediatric wheelchairs) as well as a full range of regularly required items such as cushions, drive belts, seat harnesses and leg rests.
Through this innovation, we are able to offer increased personalisation for children and families. By assessing and delivering equipment to their own homes, we can fit around their lives and schedules, saving them time and effort, and setting them on the road to a full an active life straight away.
Man in a Van also helps us to deliver our ambition of giving as many children their chairs on the day of assessment as possible (Child in a Chair in a Day).
