Whizz-Kidz is at the forefront of improving wheelchair services. Our unique and successful approach to wheelchair provision, particularly our innovations, are held up as a beacon of best practice by health leaders.
In March 2013 we launched our mobile app at the Healthcare Innovation Expo organised by the Department for Health. In addition, Whizz-Kidz’s Chairman (and former Chairman of Tesco), Sir David Reid delivered a key note speech. Sir David spoke at the Expo about how the health sector can learn from the vast pace and scale of innovation and change in the retail sector, focussing on the customer’s viewpoint to introduce high impact innovations that benefit individuals and wider society. Whizz-Kidz CEO, Ruth Owen also wrote an article for The Telegraph, about the importance of this app as a mobilising technology for disabled people.
Child in a Chair in a Day:
Our ‘Child in a Chair in a Day’ approach was recognised as a high impact innovation in the Innovation, Health and Wealth: Accelerating Adoption and Diffusion in the NHS report published in 2011. The Innovation Health and Wealth website now has a dedicated page about Child in a Chair in a Day, which features Samuel’s story outlining how he benefitted from Whizz-Kidz and a video from Whizz-Kidz’s CEO Ruth Owen.
During 2013, Whizz-Kidz's CEO, Ruth Owen OBE, was named on the Health Service Journal's inaugral 'Inspirational Women' list and also invited to participate as a guest speaker at the NHS England Informatics Services Commissioning Group about technology and innovation. This event bought together key players in the NHS, including Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt and Chief Executive of the NHS, Sir David Nicholson. The invitation to participate recognised our commitment to innovation and our renowned reputation throughout the health service and government. Ruth spoke passionately about Whizz-Kidz’s customer-centric approach and our use of innovation to deliver wheelchair services better, faster and more efficiently.
