Six year old Jacob recently received a Terrier Trike from Whizz-Kidz. Jacob, who has developmental delay, usually moves by shuffling on his bottom, now he is able to go outside and play with his two sisters, Abigail and Hollie.
Jacob’s mum Jackie described how emotional she felt as Jacob tested the trike for the first time: “ we couldn’t believe it when we were told Jacob could take the trike home that day and kept checking in the car’s rear view mirror, expecting someone to tell us it was a mistake!”
The trike was a perfect fit for Jacob, who didn’t want to get off and with the sunny weather it could not have come at a better time. The family plan to take the trike into the park and since they received it friends have been giving them tips on other fun days out in their area.
Jackie feels the trike will have an impact on the whole family, as it will allow Jacob to keep up with his sisters. Watching Jacob sitting upright on the trike Jackie said she felt she was witnessing a day which her and her husband ‘felt would never come’.
As the trike has dual controls which can be managed from behind, there is no need to run along side the bike and as Jacob becomes more independent he will be able to take over.
Thanks to Whizz-Kidz supporters, Jacob can now enjoy the great outdoors with his sisters – on his new trike!
