Whizz-Kidz’ day out at Wembley
On Wednesday 26 May the National Association of Disabled Supporters (NADS) held their Annual General Meeting at Wembley Stadium. NADS invited Whizz-Kidz and two other charities to come along and talk about the work we do with young disabled people.
Three of our young ambassadors joined us to explain all about the charity; they were Karl Woods – Millwall supporter, George Conway – Middlesbrough supporter, and Luke Stewart – Everton Supporter. Karl, George and Luke were interviewed by school children from Wolverhampton who are producing a report on accessibility to sporting venues for disabled people.
Speakers on the day included, Mark Todd, Disability Advisor on the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games who spoke about all the ways they are ensuring the Olympics and Paralympics venues will be inclusive. Simon Johnson from the England 2018 World Cup Bid talked about how they have made inclusion and accessibility an integral part of the bid.
After the meeting everybody had the opportunity to take a tour of the stadium and to have their picture taken with the FA Cup. Karl was especially pleased to do this as his team were due to play there on the following Saturday and all the preparation work was underway for Millwall’s visit!
Whizz-Kidz had a very informative day and made new friends with people who we hope will definitely play a part of our future.
