Sam & Mark volunteer at Wheelchair Skills Training in Tower Hamlets
CBBC presenters – and big Whizz-Kidz supporters – Sam & Mark, dropped in to hang out and play wheelchair-skills games with a group of young people in Tower Hamlets last week.
It was a really fun end to a week of Whizz-Kidz Wheelchair Skills Training; which supports young wheelchair users to get the most from their new mobility; and brush up on road safety, balance and steering.
Patricia Thompson, lead trainer on the scheme and a wheelchair user herself, said: “It was a brilliant afternoon, and really lovely of Sam & Mark to get stuck in. Everyone was thrilled when they appeared, and they were so generous with their time – playing all the games and handing out course certificates at the end.”
Sam & Mark joined other Whizz-Kidz volunteers, who all gave their time to support youngsters like 12 year old Henrique, who learnt how to control his powered wheelchair in busy areas with caution and the right level of speed!
Mark, pictured with Yashma (and Sam and Henrique on the left), is running the Virgin London Marathon
for Whizz-Kidz next month – in memory of his nephew Tom Robbins. Tom was a beneficiary of the charity who very sadly passed away in 2009.
Last November last year, Sam & Mark drew on their background as 2003 Pop Idol finalists to put on a tribute fundraising gig in Wolverhampton, for family, friends and fans.
