Reports and Research

Whizz-Kidz is focused on raising awareness of the importance of mobility for disabled children. In order to campaign effectively we sometimes produce, and commission, reports that highlight the importance of the right wheelchair – and its impact on children and their families.

Over the course of six months, Whizz-Kidz’ Kidz Board decided to survey as many young disabled people in full time education as possible on their experiences of education. A schools consultation was sent to over 20,000 mainstream and special needs schools; and the Whizz-Kidz Schools Consultation final report 2009/2010 can now be downloaded (Word Doc).

In 2011, The All Party Parliamentary Group on Paediatric Mobility Reform (which Whizz-Kidz sponsors) published a report based on the testimonies of families and young people trying to access the right wheelchair for them.

In April 2011, Frontier Economics – a leading economic firm – published its second report on Whizz-Kidz, demonstrating the Social Return on Investment (SRoI) of the charity’s work; for example alleviating the financial strain on families, schools and healthcare – and ‘generating’ extra income by making savings.

You can download the report as a PDF: Whizz-Kidz’ Social Return on Investment. Frontier Economics Report. March 2011

The report follows an initial review also by Frontier Economics (October 2010) which shows how Whizz-Kidz has pioneered a model for working in partnership with the NHS – delivering better wheelchairs, faster, and reducing costs by 60%.

Another older report from 2007, ‘Don’t Push Me Around!’ was produced in partnership with Barnardo’s and looks at the state of wheelchair provision for children – at this time. The report was delivered to No. 10 Downing Street by a group of our young Ambassadors.
