Welcome to our Get on Board campaign!
We know the accessibility of transport is a massive issue for young wheelchair users and over the next two years we are calling on you to play your role on the journey to inclusive travel.
On this page you can read more about our campaign and our recommendations, download the report, pledge your support and find out how else you can get involved.
What our findings say and we are doing about it!
In 2015 we polled wheelchair users, their carers and families to find out what they thought and used the findings to make some key recommendations. We found that:
- The majority of people (70%) said they do not feel they can travel as independently as they would like to.
- Three quarters (77%) said they experience problems while travelling which mean they can't travel as independently as they'd like to.
- Barriers in accessing public transport ranged from lack of accessible transport near where respondents live (67%), to being deterred by the attitudes of staff (57%) or other passengers (61%).
- Two thirds (66%) said they simply do not feel confident enough to use public transport.
Over the next two years Whizz-Kidz will be collaborating with an Accessible Travel Alliance of leading transport companies.Download Get on Board Report
