Whizz-Kidz is very proud to have been one of six charity beneficiaries of the 2012 ITV Text Santa appeal which raised over £900,000 for our charity. Thanks to the incredible success of the fundraising appeal and the generosity of ITV viewers, we’ve helped hundreds of disabled children to receive not just a brand new wheelchair, but a brand new start to their childhoods.
Friday 21 December 2012 was a ‘Text Santa Take Over’ day – alongside many other ITV programmes throughout the day, the finale was a three hour star-studded live fundraising extravaganza watched by a peak audience of 6.2 million people. 100% of donations made by viewers went directly to the charities supported by the Text Santa appeal.
On the high street
Text Santa 2012 also drew on the support of several commercial partners, who helped generate donations through cause-related marketing initiatives during December 2012. These included Asda, Hallmark, The Post Office, Santander bank branches and Vodafone.
Helping disabled children across the UK
There are an estimated 70,000 disabled children in the UK waiting for the appropriate wheelchair to enable them to lead active lives. The funds from Text Santa have already helped to provide essential mobility equipment for over 200 disabled children on our waiting list, giving them back their childhoods and setting them on the road to independence.
