In October 2016, Ernst & Young LLP (EY UK) launched a charity partnership with Whizz‐Kidz, working together to transform the lives of young people with a disability
As part of the firm’s commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace, EY UK sponsors several network communities throughout the organisation. Members of the AbilityEY communities have formed a Whizz‐Kidz working group, delivering a number of activities to support young wheelchair users and engaging the firm in fundraising and awareness events.
In 2018, EY UK launched its annual charity football tournament in support of Whizz‐Kidz and in August 2019 ran a charity quiz night as part of the City Giving Day initiative. Alongside colleagues taking part in challenge events such as Tough Mudder and Prudential Ride London, the team has fundraised over £15,200, which has had a truly life‐changing impact for young people with a disability – enough to provide four specialist manual wheelchairs!
Additionally, EY UK has provided pro‐bono support to Whizz‐Kidz, including advice on cybersecurity, supporting our ‘Re‐imagining the Wheelchair’ project, and hosting a session with our Kidz Board to establish their strategy, set out a long‐term vision for the future and identify critical immediate priorities.
The firm has demonstrated its commitment to supporting young wheelchair users in accessing the workplace, hosting 10 work experience placements across a range of teams since September 2016 and running an employability skills day, including tips on CV writing and mock interviews.
Andrew Prestney, Associate Partner at EY UK and Co‐Chair of the Ability EY communities said, “Our partnership with Whizz‐Kidz is a key part of our diversity and inclusiveness and social sustaina-bility agenda. We are focused on providing young people with the right mobility equipment and supporting their access to the workplace, whilst promoting diverse, high‐performing teams within EY UK. The partnership has grown significantly since 2016 and now involves colleagues from across the firm in multiple office locations. We look forward to continuing to work with Whizz‐Kidz in the coming years, taking the partnership from strength to strength and changing young people’s lives!”
