Most people know Whizz-Kidz for our innovative work with disabled children and young people, but as well as thousands of children, there are still thousands of adults waiting for the mobility equipment they need to fulfill their potential and enjoy independent lives. Through our NHS partnerships we’re proud to frequently be able to give disabled adults the chance of an independent future where they can play an active part in their communities and society.
The provision of mobility equipment for adults is still below par –a Cinderella service in too many cases, but through our NHS partnerships, where paediatric and adult wheelchair services are combined, Whizz-Kidz is working to help remedy this situation. (This means that the mobility equipment we provide for adults is funded by the NHS and delivered through our partnerships - we do not fundraise for it).
Whizz-Kidz is dedicated to working with NHS partners to bring our proven track record and clinical and business expertise to benefit adults, like Stephen, as well as children. In 2013, we supported over 1,600 adults through wheelchair equipment services.
In 2013, a report by Frontier Economics found that Whizz-Kidz significantly improves the adult wheelchair services in the Tower Hamlets area of London. Our partnership with the NHS has resulted in 100% satisfaction rating, cost efficiencies, and an eradication of the waiting list for mobility equipment, shorter waiting times and a higher quality service. The report also suggested that the wider impact of Whizz-Kidz's approach for adults leads to other healthcare cost savings and improved social inclusion, allowing disabled adults to be more involved and play an active role in society.
