“I’m funny… and a little bit cheeky.”

Amber Martin is 8 years old, full of energy, and absolutely loves to dance, sing and perform. She thrives on laughter, chaos, and a bit of mischief - the kind of personality that fills a room.

But Amber’s story isn’t just about who she is. It’s about what happens when the right support unlocks a child’s independence.

Life Before vs Life Now

Amber describes a perfect day as “messiness and chaos”, a world where she can be playful, expressive and free. But for a long time, freedom wasn’t that simple.

Before getting her Whizz Kidz wheelchair, Amber relied heavily on her mum. Activities with friends, moving around independently, even simple everyday moments came with limitations.

Now?

“I can move freely and independently without my mum.”

That change might sound small to some but to Amber, it transformed everything.

Independence = Confidence

With her wheelchair, Amber gained more than mobility.

She gained the ability to play with friends on her own, the confidence to be more independent in everyday life and the freedom to explore, even if that means cheekily zooming off in shops.

“I can wheel off and get whatever I want… even if Mummy says no because I am cheeky.” She laughs. Because that’s Amber - bold, playful, and enjoying the independence every child deserves.

One of the moments that means the most?

“I can hold Mummy’s hand when we go for walks now… she doesn’t have to push me.”

Finding Her Freedom

Amber lives with ADHD, and like many children, she needs outlets for her energy. Since losing the ability to walk, she found that especially challenging until Whizz Kidz opened new doors. From everyday freedom to unforgettable experiences like adaptive skiing, Amber has rediscovered that adrenaline, joy and excitement.

“I love the adrenaline rush.”

Now, she can channel her energy into the things she loves most - movement, performance, fun.

Learning Differently, Thriving Authentically

Amber is proud of how hard she works, especially when things aren’t easy.

“I’m proud of completing really challenging school work… and smashing my healthcare appointments.”

She wants people to understand something important:

“I learn in a different way.”

And with the right support, she proves every day that different doesn’t mean limited.

Amber isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

“More acting, singing and dancing.”

Her future is full of possibility because she now has the independence and confidence to chase it. She also knows exactly what she wants more of:
