Community Change Projects

Supporting local projects designed by young wheelchair users for young wheelchair users

Our Community Change Fund supports projects designed and delivered by young wheelchair users. With the backing of the Kentown Wizard Foundation, we can grant up to £1000 per project. Young wheelchair users can work with their local community, gain new skills, including project and budget management, and enjoy making change happen.

Projects can be run by community groups – schools, sports clubs, Guides, Scouts, or youth clubs – and make it possible for young wheelchair users to be more mobile, enabled and included in their local area.

How to apply: step-by-step guide

1. Come up with a project idea

Chat with your school or community organisation about running a project, come up with some ideas and decide which one would work best to make a change in your community. You can use our guidance to help you

2. Submit your application

Once you have your idea and your school or community group is on board, complete our application form and press submit. We will review your application as soon as possible and let you know if you’ve been successful. You can fill out the application on JotForm or complete the Word version below and email it to us at policy@whizz-kidz.org.uk.

3. Bring your project to life

Put your plans into action and bring your project to life using the £1000 fund! Tick off your to-do list and get the wider community involved. And don’t forget to keep us updated on your progress too!

If possible, we would love to have a Kidz Board member or a Whizz Kidz colleague visit your project to see the impact first-hand.

4. Tell us all about it

Now that your project is in full swing, we want to hear all about it! You can send us photos and videos, feedback from young people and the community, and any resources you create, like drawings, posters, or poems. We also have a feedback form for you to reflect on the project as a whole. (We’ll also need copies of boring things like receipts and invoices!)

When we report back to our funders, we will tell them about the impact the Community Change Fund is having. We may even use your project as a case study.

Please note we are unable to fund applications for wheelchairs, wheelchair parts or maintenance through the community change fund.
