Outdoor Play

Coleshill CE Primary School

Coleshill CE Primary School applied to our Community Change Fund with the aim of enriching and increasing the inclusion of their outdoor play environment. In the two years prior to their application, the school had worked hard to fundraise money to replace an obsolete trim-trail and play area. In July 2023, Coleshill opened Phase 1 of the replacement; although this included an accessible piece within the trail, the pupils, staff and parents all felt that Phase 2 should incorporate more inclusive play features.

The young wheelchair user who attends Coleshill is very outgoing and thoroughly enjoys being outside and playing with friends. Having more accessible play features will increase the opportunities for the children to play together.

With their community change project, the school purchased a range of playground accessible equipment and features. Coleshill said the project has been really successful in creating change, with the young wheelchair user being really included in games both in the classroom and on the playground.

“The project has given our child a huge boost in terms of being able to join in with her peers, be independent in her playing, feel a greater sense of achievement, boosted self-esteem, happiness…”
