The right wheelchair is the real difference
We know that with the right support, young wheelchair users are on a roll
Meet Jasper. He's young, disabled, but not so different. He has the same dreams as other young people – it’s just more difficult to get around. We want the world to discover that disability isn’t the difference we should care about. Watch our video to see how the right wheelchair, at the right time, is the real difference.
We're here for young wheelchair users
Jasper is one of 75,000 young people in the UK who use a wheelchair to be mobile. Many don’t get a wheelchair that meets their needs through local services. For a young person, having the wrong wheelchair can lead to dependence on others, social isolation, poor mental health, pain and injury. Without the ability to be independent, young wheelchair users are restricted in their ability to socialise and participate in society. We have to change that.
We create opportunities for young wheelchair users to get the equipment, skills and confidence to go further.
Whizz Kidz on a roll
Real-life stories of how the right wheelchair has been the difference for some of the young people we work with.
Jake
Jake has the incredibly rare combination of dwarfism and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. But after receiving a tiny lightweight wheelchair from Whizz Kidz, Jake's world was transformed. "He can go where he wants, when he wants, on his own time.”
Logan
For 12-year-old Logan, his powered wheelchair has been “life-changing,” his mum Charlotte says. "His independence is just the best thing ever... When he's in his powerchair, he's got a smile on his face… he's going fast and doing his own thing."
Ruby
Ruby, 18, says “Getting my lightweight wheelchair and power assist was life-changing. Before, the heavy chair stopped me from being independent - I couldn't easily hang out with friends or use public transport. But now, I feel so much more freedom.”
Donate
Together, we can be there for more young wheelchair users. Donate now and make a real difference to a young person's life.
Get Support
As the UK’s leading charity supporting young wheelchair users up to 25 years old, we provide them with the equipment and skills they need to live life as independently as possible. To enjoy all of the opportunities and activities that so many others take for granted ‐ at home, at school, at work and beyond.
