A little warrior and now she's unstoppable
Robyn's Story
Robyn saw her world grow the day she received her wheelchair from Whizz Kidz in April. Prior to this, she had been carried or confined to a pram, meaning she had no agency or independence for where she wanted to go.
Hitting important milestones
Robyn, who was born with spina bifida myelomengiocele, is paralysed from the waist down. She doesn’t let this dull her sparkle, especially now she has her wheelchair, which has given her freedom and independence. Those who have been lucky to meet Robyn agree that she lights up a room when you walk in, making everyone smile.
The NHS had provided Robyn with a pram but couldn’t provide a wheelchair small enough. Back in April, Robyn received her personalised, specialised wheelchair from Whizz Kidz. We worked with a company called Spex to ensure the seat would be comfortable and give Robyn enough support on her spine.
She was able to drive her new wheelchair straight away, a remarkable milestone given that just minutes earlier she had been in a pram. Now she has her wheelchair, she’s fiercely independent. The first thing she did when she came home was head straight to the snack cupboard because for the first time ever, she could reach it!
Navigating the world with confidence and style
Robyn has continued to flourish in her wheelchair, and is able to reverse, do 360 spins and, perhaps most importantly, dance! Music is an essential in her house, and she’s always dancing.
Her Mum especially noticed that her confidence in other areas has seen a huge boost:
Whizz Kidz have given her independence, she’s like a totally different child — more confident. Even her teachers could see it. She’s a little warrior and now she’s unstoppable.
