Independence Can't Wait

Caius' Story

This Christmas, The Express has been amplifying the voices of the young people and families we support at Whizz Kidz, and raising money for our Childhood Can’t Wait campaign.

Readers of The Express have been invited to give the gift of childhood this Christmas, and we are blown away by their generous support.

One of the children The Express has featured is Caius. You can read the original piece in The Express here.

Caius

Caius, a funny, loving, eight year old who was born with spina bifida, has spent four years using a wheelchair from Whizz Kidz, a vast improvement from the buggy he was provided by the NHS.

A well fitted wheelchair is crucial for Caius’ health. It is incredibly important that his spine is supported well, and at his last visit to a Whizz Kidz clinic, a harness was fitted to help give him another layer of security. He is on the waiting list for a new wheelchair as he grows.

By moving from a buggy that was difficult to move, and impossible for Caius to move independently, to a wheelchair, Caius can do more of the things that he loves. Him and his family make wonderful memories on holiday, and the beach is his happy place.

Whizz Kidz is phenomenal. The charity meets their individual needs. A lot of children, and a lot of his friends, don’t have this opportunity.

Childhood Can't Wait

For children like Caius, every day spent in an unsuitable wheelchair, or buggy, is a day of childhood lost. Those beautiful family memories are tougher to make happen.

The beach can’t wait. Independence can’t wait. Childhood can’t wait.
