Our BBC Radio 4 Appeal Raises Over £24,000

Our recent BBC Radio 4 Appeal has raised over £24,000

We’re thrilled to share the fantastic news that our recent BBC Radio 4 Appeal has raised over £24,000 — thanks to the incredible generosity of listeners and supporters across the UK.

This amazing total will go directly towards funding life-changing mobility equipment and services for young wheelchair users, helping them gain independence, confidence, and the chance to live full and active lives.

Why It Matters

At Whizz Kidz, we believe every young person deserves the right wheelchair — one that meets their needs, fits their lifestyle, and helps them thrive. Yet, an estimated 75,000 young people in the UK rely on a wheelchair, and many don’t have access to one that truly works for them.

Without the right chair, young people can face real challenges — from physical pain and social isolation to limited independence and mental health struggles. With your support, we’re changing that.

The appeal, which aired from Sunday 2nd to Saturday 8th March, was fronted by Whizz Kidz ambassador and BBC presenter Martin Dougan. Martin shared the story of Aniyah, a bright and energetic five-year-old born with spina bifida.

Aniyah had been using a bulky NHS wheelchair that made everyday tasks difficult and limited her ability to keep up with her friends. Thanks to Whizz Kidz, she now has a lightweight, custom-fitted wheelchair that’s transformed her life — making school, play, and home life much more accessible and enjoyable.

Martin, who received his own Whizz Kidz wheelchair at the age of 13, reflected on how the right equipment opened doors for him — and how it can do the same for children like Aniyah.

Thank You

Our Chief Executive, Sarah Pugh, added her heartfelt thanks:

“Whizz Kidz extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported the appeal — whether through donations, spreading the word, or simply tuning in. Your kindness will help more children like Aniyah experience greater freedom and inclusion. Every child deserves the chance to be mobile, confident, and included. We’re so grateful to everyone who donated and helped share our message”
