Isaac's story

A lifetime of defying odds

When Isaac was born he was very unwell, in a critical state, and in hospital for two weeks.

I get very emotional when I remember what we went through what the doctors said about his outcomes. He has proved everyone wrong. They call him ‘miracle Isaac'.

Isaac's Mum

In the last two years, he’s taken his Incredible Hulk inspired wheelchair all around the world – to see family in Pakistan, to Disneyland Paris and up the Eiffel Tower! All this would not have been possible with the heavier equipment he had initially.

The importance of the right chair

Six-year-old Isaac, who was born with spina bifida, is paralysed from the waist down. But he doesn’t let this stop him from playing with his friends, and from travelling with his family.

His NHS wheelchair was heavy, and too wide to fit through the door to his flat. It was also very difficult for his Mum to carry up and down the stairs as she has arthritis. Since receiving his wheelchair, complete with an Incredible Hulk themed colour scheme from Whizz Kidz 2 years ago, he has been able to be more independent. He is now able to self-propel comfortably, meaning he can go off and play with his friends easily.

Isaac describes his wheelchair as his “legs”, using it at school, at home and whenever he goes out. His chair is much lighter than the one he was issued with by the NHS, as well as being more stable. He’ssince had his chair adjusted to help accommodate his body as he grows.

At school, I play but I don’t tell anyone to push me because I can push myself.
