Kidz Max Days offer the opportunity to take part in a range of activities, all of which are accessible. Parents and siblings can come along too for a fun day out for the entire family. For some of our young wheelchair users, Kidz Max Day was their first interaction with Whizz Kidz young people’s services. Many of these young people have gone on to attend more Whizz Kidz programmes and events both in person and online, trying their hand at everything from animation to badminton to felting.

  • In 2022, 11 of the young people who attended Kidz Max Days that year had never been to Whizz Kidz programmes before – between them, they’ve since attended 47 programmes and 7 of them came back for Kidz Max in 2023!
  • In 2023, 5 of the young people who attended Kidz Max Days that year had never been to Whizz Kidz programmes before – collectively they’ve attended 20 programmes already since last summer!

One young person and their family remembers their first Kidz Max day as being a great day with lots of activities that they could access. They decided to continue coming along to Whizz Kidz programmes after their first Kidz Max Day because so many activities out there are not set up to be inclusive to wheelchair users. The young person and their family said all the sessions they’ve attended since have been brilliant and well thought out.

The programmes can offer something for the whole family. For the young person, they enjoyed coming along to an environment with children who are similar to them and where they don’t stand out. On the other hand, the parents have been able to meet other families in similar circumstances - they said this has been lovely with parents even offering useful tips of other inclusive events they might be interested in.

"We are so grateful that our family can access this support"

For another family, the young person said they that what they remember the most about their first Kidz Max Day was the other young wheelchair users like them. This is often a common experience for young wheelchair users, sometimes they might be the only wheelchair user in their school or friendship group.

The fact that the day was so accessible and enjoyable to the family encouraged them to come along to the Whizz Kidz programmes in their area, which they said were fun! The young person said they think they programmes are good as they don’t see many other young people like themselves. For the parents, they’ve found the sessions useful to finding out more information and knowing that you’re not alone.

"Meeting other wheelchair users at Whizz Kidz events is good, I don’t see many other children like me elsewhere"
