Jade started playing basketball at 13, before becoming a full-time wheelchair user.
And with the help of two sports wheelchairs from Whizz-Kidz, she’s been able to pursue her dream of becoming a professional wheelchair basketball player.
Jade now plays for the U25 team and hopes she’ll be able to move into the senior women’s GB team.
She says: “My first basketball wheelchair was a second hand one which was not fitted for me at all.
“So when I received my current sports wheelchair from Whizz-Kidz I couldn’t believe how much lighter it was.
“It really improved my speed on the court and, in a way, allowed me to be the kind of player that I am today.
“It was really amazing and a once in a lifetime opportunity!”
Jade was selected to play for the South East regionals, came first in the women’s league with her team and is hopeful of her future.
You never know what opportunities will come around and change your life!
She says: “During one of my games, two coaches came and after seeing me play gave me their cards and asked me to contact them. That’s how I got scouted for team GB!”
Wanting to improve her performance even further, Jade applied for a new sports wheelchair from Whizz-Kidz.
She says: “The new wheelchair will be even lighter, give my back more support and keep my legs in the right position, increasing my comfortability.
“Having a wheelchair that fits all my needs for the court will enable me to improve my performance and be a better basketball player.
“This will hopefully help me to move from the U25s team to the senior women’s GB team.”
Jade describes the basketball court as “like her home”, and credits the sport with boosting her confidence.
She says: “I used to be quite shy and not used to being around people, but when I play basketball I am able to move very fast and feel free.
Jade adds: “My advice for all young wheelchair users is that if you have a passion for something, don’t overthink and just go for it.
